PEI ATLANTIC HALIBUT CONSERVATION HARVESTING PLAN, 2009-2010

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), today approved the Conservation Harvesting
Plan, (CHP), for the PEI fixed gear fleet sector for the 2009 season.
The Atlantic halibut allocation for this fleet is set at 18.5 metric tonnes. Under the terms of the
approved CHP, the season will commence at 05:00 hrs (ADT) on August 27, 2009 and end at
21:00 hrs (ADT) on the same day.
The approved gear for this fishery is longline with a minimum hook size of 15.4mm and
harvesters are reminded that in an effort to determine the actual effort expected for this fishery
they must pre-register with their association by 16:00 hrs on August 14th. An industry funded atsea-
observer coverage program is required at a minimal level of 10%.

fishery.
